Yes. Small personal bags no larger than 12 x 12 x 6 inches are welcome throughout the Library. For everyone’s safety and to protect our collections, all bags may be inspected on entry. We recommend leaving large bags, luggage, and oversized backpacks in your vehicle. Complimentary lockers (about 14 x 28 inches — roomy for a day bag, but not large enough for a suitcase) are available; just ask a member of our Welcome Team.

All visitors pass through a brief security screening before entering, which may include bag inspections and other reasonable measures. Pocket knives and other prohibited items aren’t allowed inside; if you arrive with a pocket knife, our team will store it in a labelled bag so you can collect it before you leave. Having your bags open and ready helps speed entry for everyone.

No. Pocket knives and other prohibited items are not permitted inside the Library. If you accidentally arrive with a pocket knife, our team will securely store it in a labelled bag during your visit and return it before you leave.

For the safety and comfort of everyone, firearms, knives, and other weapons are not permitted on Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library property. Unlike small pocket knives, we are not able to store firearms, so please plan accordingly.

No. To support the Library’s Living Building Challenge commitment and protect the natural environment, the Library and all grounds are smoke-free and vape-free. Smoking, vaping, and e-cigarettes are not permitted anywhere on Library property, including the parking areas and outdoor spaces. If you smoke or vape, please plan to do so before arriving or after leaving.

We want every visitor to enjoy a welcoming, respectful, and memorable experience. We ask everyone to treat fellow visitors, staff, volunteers, and the Library with courtesy and respect; help protect the galleries, exhibits, and collections; follow the guidance of Library staff; supervise children in their care at all times; and wear shoes and attire that provide appropriate coverage (clothing with obscene, sexually explicit, threatening, or hateful content isn’t permitted). Behavior that is threatening, disruptive, or unsafe may result in being asked to leave the property.

Dogs on a leash are welcome to enjoy the outdoor grounds, and only trained service animals are permitted inside the building. For your pet’s safety, please never leave an animal unattended in a parked vehicle — temperatures can become dangerous quickly, even on mild days — and please clean up after your pet.
