Discover the Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library | Medora, North Dakota

The Badlands shaped Theodore Roosevelt. Now they're home to his presidential library.

Set on a 93-acre campus above Medora, North Dakota, the Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library tells T.R.'s story from childhood to ranch life, Kettle Hill, the White House, Africa and the Amazon. Along the way, participants make his decisions for themselves: design a cattle brand, create a campaign poster, run their own presidency and talk with T.R. At the end, their choices reveal their own Trailblazer archetype.

The building is made to blend into the landscape. It has a living roof, rammed-earth walls, restored native prairie and nearly a mile of accessible boardwalk leading out to views of the Badlands. The Library is pursuing the Living Building Challenge, a standard for buildings that produce their own energy, handle their own water and restore the land around them.

It is also a place to gather. The Library has classrooms, an auditorium for speakers and civic forums, and spaces for conferences, retreats and celebrations. When a visit ends, Theodore Roosevelt National Park and downtown Medora are minutes away.
